Spring term 1 & 2 - The Celts and Continents

We are really enjoying being in Year 3. In Literacy we have read and   composed many different types of writing. In Numeracy we have been revising some previous learning. Art is brilliant fun, looking at Banksy and cave paintings. We have used oil pastels, chalk and charcoal. We have enjoyed showing our rocks in Science. Orienteering and partner work in Gymnastics has encouraged us to work with other people and has been lots of fun. Playing the ukulele and start to learn French is brilliant. Best of all is using the back playground because it is huge!
Healthy Hearts and Minds Day
Robins have had a busy and exciting second half of the Autumn term.
Stone Age Day got us off to a great start. Mr Tyson organised a whole range of different activities based on Stone Age Life and he shared his knowledge and his artefacts with us. To introduce the day we made a human time-line to help us try to understand just how long ago the Stone Age was and how long it lasted. To end the day some of us dressed in furs like Mr Tyson. Marcus looked great!

We have studied the Stone Age in other subjects too. In Art with Mrs Gaskin we have had a go at finger fluting and have created some amazing Cave Art. In Literacy we looked at Raymond Briggs' Ug, about a Stone Age boy genius, and we made up our own Stone Age cartoons in his style. In the last few days before Christmas we are now looking at Raymond Briggs more famous The Snowman, The SnowDog and Father Christmas and comparing and contrasting them.
Learning Futures was great fun. We worked in mixed class groups of six and created our own mini company to design, make, advertise and finally sell our pizzas in the St Georges and Parkfields "Market Place".  We really impressed all our teachers by how well most of us organised ourselves, worked together and confidently competed for tokens with the year 7's.
In Maths we've been working hard learning and practising Time and Fractions along with all our other great maths and we've continued our French by learning numbers and colours.

In Science we have continued our rock study by finding out about volcanoes and fossil formation. We have built our own papier-mache volcanoes and will erupt them before Christmas. We are also looking forward to creating our own mould and cast fossils.
We've all really enjoyed our weekly swim at Flitwick this half term. It is great to see how much progress some of us have made in just a few weeks. A huge "Thank you" to our parent helpers from all of Robins class.

We have been really lucky too, to have Reverend Linda visit Robins twice this term. First she discussed with us how Christians show their Commitment to God and then she returned to tell us all about Baptism. We all took part in the Baptism of Sarah Rose Robins, whose parents and Godparents took good care of her throughout the ceremony.
We are all very excited about our Christmas holiday and we wish everyone a wonderfully happy Christmas.
After a much deserved break we are looking forward to a fantastic New Year 2018 in Robins when we will start looking at the Celts and finding out about their lives.
